How Material Accomplishments at St. George Melkite Greek Catholic Church Benefit the Community

When you donate money to St. George Church, you are:

  • Feeding the hungry
  • Giving drink to the thirsty
  • Clothing the naked
  • Sheltering the homeless
  • Visiting the sick

Zababdeh is a poor agricultural city. Zababdeh has a very high unemployment rate / underemployment rate and the remaining small businesses are barely breaking even. The people need money for food, drink, clothing, medicine, housing, etc.

The economy is shrinking. A shrinking economy means less money is in circulation, which means fewer jobs, fewer food, fewer goods, fewer construction projects, etc. Then, the number of poor people is increasing. The number of people, who cannot afford to pay for nourishment, medical needs, clothes, housing, and schooling, is increasing. A significant percentage of people have malnutrition and / or are ill or in fragile health. A significant percentage of people have very few changes of clothes. A significant percentage of people live in crowd conditions in extended family homes. A significant percentage of people are not continuing their education. These people have a hard time in praying, thinking, learning, and working.

This situation is especially hard on the children. A generation of children is growing up without proper nutrition and medical care. A generation of children is growing up in inappropriate sizes of clothes and has few changes of clothes. A generation of children is growing up in very crowd homes. Then, these children have hard time learning in school. After graduation, they will have a hard time obtaining employment and supporting a family. Then, the cycle of poverty will continue.

To reduce the number of poor people, the economy must expand. Money must come into Zababdeh. However, there are limits on how money can come into Zababdeh.

One method for money to come into Zababdeh is donations.

When you give money to Abouna Firas Boutros Khoury Diab, the economy in Zababdeh grows. A growing economy means more money is in circulation, which means more jobs, more food, more goods, more construction, etc. Then, the number of poor people will decrease. The number of people, who cannot afford to pay for nourishment, medical needs, clothes, housing, and schooling, will decrease. Less people will have malnutrition and / or are ill or in fragile health. Less people will have very few changes of clothes. Less people will live in crowd conditions in extended family homes. Less people will not continuing their education. These people will have an easier time in praying, thinking, learning, and working.

The situation of the children will improve. Fewer children will grow up without proper nutrition and medical care. Fewer children will grow up in inappropriate sizes of clothes and will have few changes of clothes. Fewer children will grow up in very crowd homes. Then, these children will have an easier time in learning in school. After graduation, they will have an easier time obtaining employment and supporting a family. Then, the cycle of poverty will be broken.

When you give money to Abouna Firas Boutros Khoury Diab, the following actions result.

  • He builds, maintains, or repairs a structure or he begins or expands a project.
  • He hires workers.
  • These people buy food, liquids, clothing, medicine, housing, etc. for their families and the suppliers stay in business.
  • He purchases items for liturgical services and for the church. He purchases building and project materials.
  • o He purchases from stores. The stores stay in business.
  • These people buy food, liquids, clothing, medicine, housing, etc. for their families and the other suppliers stay in business.
