Aid Proposal

Saint George Melkite Greek Catholic Church plans to establish a combined Kindergarten / Senior Citizen Center. They will be in the Church Hall. The outside of this building, the Church Hall, is completed. The inside of this building is being completed. The plan was that the Kindergarten would open in the Fall of 2006.

Now, the plan is that a combined Kindergarten / Senior Citizen Center will open in the Fall of 2007. The reason is that in the past several months, the condition of the elderly has received attention from the city officials and they wish to begin programs for this sector of the population. Moreover, Abouna Firas understands the importance of the link between the young children and the older adults.

Abouna Firas believes that a combined Kindergarten / Senior Citizen Center would aid the children and the elders of the parish: spiritually, socially, emotionally, and intellectually.

  • Spiritually
    • The attendees will be able to participate in daily Liturgical Services in the Church
    • The pastor will be available to the attendees.
  • Emotionally
    • The attendees will have a loving, caring, and stable group environment.
    • The pastor will be available to the attendees.
  • Socially
    • The attendees will develop a sense of community.
    • The students will learn social skills from the seniors.
    • The seniors will continue to utilize their social skills with the students and with each other.
  • Intellectually
    • The students will expand their intellectual capability by learning knowledge from the seniors.
    • .
    • The seniors will use their intellectual capability by teaching knowledge to the students and by sharing knowledge with each other.

The current plan is to pair one student and one senior during the school day.. Then, every child will receive love, attention, and role modeling from a “grandparent” and every adult will receive love, attention, and respect from a “grandchild”. This pairing should enable the students to learn more social and academic information in a better environment and should enable the adults to contribute to society.

The building is 12 meters long, 9.5 meters wide, 3.5 meters high with 12 support columns.

We thank all the people who contributed prayers, time, effort, and money.

We especially thank the following donors:

  • Sayedna John Elya, Eparch Emeritus of Newton (Our Lady of the Annunciation in Boston, Massachusetts, United States)
  • Martha Liles who made a donation in memory of her mother, Elizabeth Ann Liles, who was known before her marriage as Betty Ann Mispagel, to build the building.
  • Eileen Fleming to complete the inside of the building.

A building with one Class Room was completed in February 2005.
